To understand the war, you need to know what came before it. UAWarExplained.com explains the historical background of the war in Ukraine to an international audience in several languages and three formats: 10, 30 or 60 minutes. The identity, web design and illustrations turned a complex history into a clear story you can read even on a smartphone.

Every event leaves a trace
The UAWarExplained mark is made of thirty dots, one for each year of Ukraine's independence. The size of a dot shows how turbulent the year was, from small, peaceful ones to large ones leading to war. Together they form a timeline that shows the war did not start suddenly: every event left a trace that can be followed.

About the project
UAWarExplained.com is a volunteer educational project about the history that led to the war in Ukraine. Its goal is to make reliable information from open sources accessible to anyone who wants to understand the context. Key events, actors and their goals are presented in chronological order, and readers choose how deep to go: a short overview, a more detailed story or the full course.

Requirements for the visual identity
Thirty dots for thirty years of Ukraine's independence. Even without text, the mark shows the main point: the war did not start suddenly, a sequence of events led to it, and each of them can be traced.
A restrained gray sets the tone without emotional pressure, while yellow and blue accents point at once to the country in question. Monospaced headings recall a document or an archive record and set the reader up for facts, and a calm text typeface is easy to read even on a smartphone screen.
The timeline arranges events into a clear sequence that shows what led to what. Readers choose the depth (10, 30 or 60 minutes) and get a complete picture on which to form their own opinion. Illustrations make a complex history accessible, and clear context becomes the best defense against manipulation and propaganda.
